About W.S.G. What is the Water Safety Guide?
Traditional activities such as canoes and mini-boats remain popular, and in recent years SUP (Stand Up Paddleboarding) and other water activities have rapidly gained users. At the same time, more people are entering the ocean without the knowledge and skills needed to prevent accidents—resulting in an increasing number of incidents.
To ensure that everyone can enjoy these activities safely, the Japan Coast Guard has launched this comprehensive safety information site—the Water Safety Guide.
The Water Safety Guide compiles agreed-upon and recommended safety measures discussed by relevant government agencies and private organizations.
Before engaging in any water activity, it is essential to understand the ocean environment, the characteristics and equipment of your craft, the skills you must acquire, and the maritime rules. Preparation protects your life. We encourage you to use this Water Safety Guide and enjoy the ocean safely.
